Holocaust Museum with MAX & BENNY’S and more!!!

Will have a docent lead tour of the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center. Expressed in a founding principle: “Remember the Past, Transform the Future.” The Museum is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Holocaust by honoring the memories of those who were lost, and by teaching universal lessons that combat hatred, prejudice, and indifference. Included experience the first-in-the-world virtual reality exhibition, The Journey Back, which applies cutting-edge technology to engage visitors on a journey as they walk through concentration camps with Holocaust Survivors who experienced them. Included lunch at Max and Benny’s Deli and time to shop. Tour the Charles Gates Dawes Mansion. Each room showcases the family’s remarkable collection of furnishings and artwork, interpreted through their lifestyle in the 1920s. Tour through the magnificent Great Hall, gracious reception parlors, expansive library, galleried dining room, and historic kitchen. In this house, the Dawes family welcomed a wide range of acquaintances, from neighborhood children to global dignitaries.

Chicago History Museum Lunch at Orso’s on Wells

Chicago History Museum with a docent lead tour of the city’s history through a series of galleries that highlight artifacts from the Museum’s remarkable collection. By no means a complete history, Chicago: Crossroads of America focuses on a selection of stories that illustrate Chicago’s crossroads nature and its national influence. The iconic L car no. 1 greets visitors at the entrance, and then the exhibition is divided into five thematic areas that explore various aspects of the city’s dynamic nature.

Spooktacular Ghost Tour

If NYC is the big apple, Chicago is the Big Stinky Onion and today we will peel back the layers of history to her heart of darkness. She has always had a shady side and on this excursion we will take you for a walk to the dark side. We will visit the actual sites of blood, murder, and mayhem. These sites are absolutely visually unmarked and yet imprinted with the horror of the actual events whose stories will chill even the bravest souls. Stocking Stuffer Tour
IN THE NORTH SHORE AREA, ILLINOIS
Get ready to “Stuff your Stocking” with a variety of items from Chicago’s North Shore. Your group will be met by a member of Chicago’s North Shore Convention and Visitors Bureau staff at a pre-determined destination. Everyone will receive a customized “Stocking” to fill with items from each stop on your tour (minimum of 4 stops). We don’t want to give away the fun surprises, but this fun filled tour will be spiced, holidazed and ornamented. Don’t worry about the early start time, as we will make sure you are properly “fueled” for the day with morning coffee from one of our favorite stops along the route. This fun Holiday tour will include a special lunch on the water at Gale Street Inn Choice that day of soup or salad, Chicken Parmesan, Whitefish Almandine, or Ribs. Dessert Choice homemade Carrot Cake or Tiramisu.

Graceland Cemetery Tour - SOLD OUT!

Come take a docent guided walking tour of Graceland Cemetery in Chicago. Each grave marker in Graceland Cemetery turns a page in the narrative that is the saga of Chicago. Since 1860, its monuments have whispered to visitors to listen to the legends of Chicago's elite. Graceland is the final resting place of Chicago's industrial barons, its lords and ladies of art and architecture, and its shapers of culture and political thought. It is an 80 acre Victorian park designed using the ideals of the English Garden movement, a virtual arboretum where gravesites were once marketed as "landscape rooms"...its monuments and tomb stones grandly designed and opulently decorated. Halim Time & Glass Museum. One suburban man and his family are passionate about time and starting next week they want you to make time to see their personally curated collection. There are so many pieces they decided to build a museum to house and display them. It's located in Evanston and houses over 1100 time pieces and over 70 stained glass pieces of art. The building is five stories tall and is filled with history, art and the study of time. (Elevator accessible). Charles Gates Dawes’ magnificent home, now a National Historic Landmark, was built by Dr. Robert Sheppard in 1894 on two acres overlooking Lake Michigan. It served as the Dawes family home from 1909 until 1957. Faithfully restored and carefully conserved, this chateauesque residence, designed by architect Henry Edwards- Ficken, of New York, has twenty-five rooms, including a cherry paneled library, a vaulted dining room with a musicians’ gallery, six bedrooms, and twelve fireplaces. Stairs Frances Willard Home another National Historic Landmark, built in 1865, and patterned after a design by Andrew J. Downing, this Evanston house was home to Frances Willard (1839-1898). Both author and activist, Frances Willard lived and worked in this house during the years of her presidency of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU). For many of those years, the house also served as an informal national headquarters for the WCTU and a boarding house for its workers. San Filippo Christmas Extravaganza - SOLD OUT!

Sanfilippo Estates is a hidden gem and a bucket list for certain. We experienced just a glimpse of the private estate at Christmas time. The Sanfilippo "Place de la Musique" is known worldwide for its magnificent collections of beautifully restored antique music machines, phonographs, arcade and gambling machines. Chandeliers, art glass, and the world's largest restored theatre pipe organ, the most spectacular European salon carousel in existence, street and tower clocks, steam engines and other functional mechanical antiques, are displayed within a breathtaking French Second Empire setting. Will enjoy a beautiful lunch in the clock tower house. We will listen to the carousel play and enjoy a included plated lunch (TBA) with vino flowing. Afterwards will head up to the main house for a concert in the theater room. Stop off at tree time Christmas creations and a quick run into the Fisher Nut outlet to grab some nuts for our holiday baking before returning home.

Explore rich holiday traditions from around the globe in Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light. At the Museum of Science and Industry. It began in 1942 with a single tree. Today, the Museum’s beloved annual celebration features a four-story, floor-to-dome Grand Tree, surrounded by a forest of more than 50 trees and displays decorated by volunteers to represent the holiday traditions from cultures around the globe. It’s the one-of-a-kind experience that brings a whole world of holiday joy under one roof. Lunch at Tre Krona (bucket-list experience) for there traditional all you can eat Christmas Norwegian/Swedish board. Will have a cup of Glug out by the fire to begin our experience. Over 7 different herrings and Norwegian fish lutefisk, assorted cheeses and so much more will available to taste. Will take time to explore The Swedish Shop next door to pick up some Norwegian holiday treats. We were here before covid it was an awesome experience! If you are a fan of the Laverne & Shirley show, you will appreciate seeing Milwaukee's City Hall which was the opening shot of the show. See Polish Flats and the Brewery that made Milwaukee Famous, "Shotz." We even make a stop to see Laverne's heartthrob, The Bronze Fonz Statue. Bring your camera for that! Our day includes touring Lakefront Brewery where you will enjoy 2 samples and a souvenir glass. Laverne’s pop was well known for his pizza served at the Pizza Bowl, so lunch is at a family-owned Pizzeria. The day also includes a game of mini-bowling because the girls have to keep their skills sharp for the Shotz Brewery Tournament. Top off the day with a frozen custard treat at Milwaukee's legendary and nostalgic Leon's Drive-In. Be ready for surprises along the way.

We specialize in experiences, trips, programs and more designed for active adults keeping in mind their particular needs. This has been a life long dream of mine. We are taking a leap of faith to open up a new chapter of creating life long memories with the best people we know! What types of payment do you take?
Karried Away With Carrie accepts payments by cash, check, money order, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover card. Do you have a waitlist?
It is possible to be placed on a waitlist at no cost when maximum enrollment has been reached for a particular class program. What is your cancellation policy?
PROGRAM CANCELATION POLICY Karried Away With Carrie reserves the right to cancel, postpone or combine classes as necessary. Programs may be canceled due to low enrollment. Register early to get the class you want at the time you want it. In the event that Karried Away With Carrie cancels a program, the participant will receive a full refund. If a program is cancelled in mid-session, a prorated refund will be issued. How do you keep in contact, especially if an experience is cancelled?
WE KEEP IN CONTACT We are able to use email to keep everyone informed on cancelled trips, activities or on possible new programs in the future. To do this we need a good email for everyone. Please send us an email to carrie@Karriedawaywithcarrie.org and will reply back letting you know you are in! What is your refund policy?
REFUND POLICY No refunds will be made once a program has begun unless Karried Away With Carrie has altered or cancelled a program. If you need to drop-out of a program there will be a service fee of $3 to cover the cost of processing a refund. Karried Away With Carrie must be notified of cancelation by the register before the date of that program. Cancellations made after the program date are subject to a $3 service fee, plus any costs incurred by Karried Away With Carrie. Cancellations made with less than 10 day’s notice will not be able to receive a refund. |
